Jennifer L. Armentrout es una autora que me gusta mucho, me he leído la saga completa Lux y Te esperaré, bajo el seudónimo con el que también escribe, L. Lynn. Todas sus historias tienen algo que hacen que me atrapen y me dejen con muy buenas sensaciones. Don't look back hacía tiempo que tenía muchas ganas de leerlo, si bien la Editorial Maeva Young lo acaba de publicar en castellano bajo el título, Cuidado, no mire atrás, yo he querido leerlo en inglés, ya que llevo un tiempo estudiando este idioma y me viene genial practicar, y además porque siempre es mucho mejor leer en el idioma que está escrito. En esta historia la autora nos sumerge en una trama donde el suspense, misterio y la parte romántica, hacen un coctel explosivo haciendo que su lectura me haya gustado mucho.
Sam desapareció una noche y nada se volvió a saber de ella, hasta que un día de pronto reaparece pero no recuerda quien es, porque está ahí ni que pasó la noche que desapareció. Ha perdido completamente la memoria, no hay un solo recuerdo que la haga recordar nada de su vida anterior, no recuerda a sus padres, hermano, amigos, e incluso se entera que tiene un novio y no puede ni tan siquiera recordar ningún momento vivido con él. Todo en la vida de Sam se vuelve complicado, se siente una extraña en su propia vida y por si eso fuera poco, su mejor amiga Cassie con la cual desapareció esa noche, sigue desaparecida, no se sabe nada de ella y Sam se siente culpable porque al tener su memoria como un papel en blanco, poco puede hacer para ayudar a la policía a esclarecer que pasó. Adaptarse a su nueva situación está siendo difícil, todo el mundo especula y lo que más sorprende a Sam es que no es muy querida entre su entorno, ya que por lo visto, siempre fue una persona prepotente, orgullosa y para nada fácil de tratar. Por eso su familia, hermano y todo el mundo que la conoció, están sorprendidos con esta nueva personalidad y no terminan de saber como actuar con ella, sobre todo la persona que quizás más sufrió sus desplantes, Carson Ortiz, hijo del jardinero de su familia y con el cual pasó los mejores años de su infancia, hasta que fue creciendo y algo la hizo cambiar y comportase como un ogro.
There was a heavy, tense pause, and then he wrapped his arm around me, curving his fingers over my shoulder.
I didn't know what to do with my hands, but he smelled like citrus and soap––a scent unique to him. Eventually, I folded my hands against his side, and he jerked a little. Worried that I'd done something wrong, I lifted my chin and my breath stalled again.
Carson was looking at me, an our months were only an inch or two apart. Sooty lashes hid his eyes, but I felt them, their power. And the need in them, as if it were my own––is was my own. And suddenly it didn't matter that everyone believed I didn't know who I was anymore, because with––Carson––I knew who I wanted to be, and that was all that mattered.
He made a low sound in the back of his throat and moved toward me, pressing his forehead against mine. My hand seemed to know what to do. I placed it on his cheek, my thumb smoothing over the skin below his lip, and he shuddered at the slight touch. It felt as if I'd never done this before, even if Del claimed we'd donde everything before.
This was my first––that I remembered––with Carson, and that felt right.
La historia me ha sorprendido y gustado bastante, el misterio y suspense que envuelve a toda la trama hasta el final, ha sido un aliciente que me ha mantenido pegada a sus páginas, aunque al leerlo en inglés he tardado más y me desesperaba por querer avanzar más rápida. La parte romántica ha estado genial, Sam se ve entre su novio al que no recuerda y por el cual no tiene el más mínimo sentimiento y lo que le hace sentir Carson, por el cual cada día que pasa se siente más unida a él. Sam quiere hacer todo lo posible por recordar, saber que pasó esa noche y así intentar ayudar y encontrar a Cassie, pero hay alguien que no quiere que sus recuerdos salgan a la luz, porque lo que descubra dará un giro sorprendente que lo cambiará todo.
Don't look back, es un thriller young adult que me ha mantenido hasta el final haciendo mis propias cábalas, para saber que pasó la noche que Sam y Cassie desaparecieron. La autora ha sabido mantener el suspense hasta el final y me ha vuelto a conquistar con esta historia. Os la recomiendo.
